Bombing rocks Myitsone

A SERIES of bomb blasts at the Myitsone hydropower project early on April 17 left one man injured and destroyed several vehicles and buildings, state media said last week.
An official from Asia World, the local partner in the Kachin State-based hydro project, told The Myanmar Times that 10 bombs were detonated at four locations about 3am on April 17. No one has claimed respons-ibility for the bombing.
The official, who works at the Myitsone site, about 42 kilometres (26 miles) north of the Kachin State capital Myitkyina, said work was able to restart the day after the bombings.
“After the explosion happened we cleaned up the debris at the project site and then we were able to restart our construction work. The bombings didn’t delay the dam construction,” the official said.
An official from the Kachin State Progressive Party condemned the bombings.
“As both the party leader and an individual I totally condemn those who use violence to achieve their political aims,” party chair-man Dr Tuja said.
