Money change counters open at airports

TOURISTS arriving in Myanmar by air will now have access to money changers that will accepts US dollars, euros or British pounds in exchange for Foreign Exchange Certificates (FEC), a senior Yangon International Airport official said last week.

The money changing facilities are now available at the Mandalay and Yangon international airports and are run by the Ministry of Finance and Revenue.

“Those money changers at the airport can now convert US dollars, British pounds and euros to FEC but not to kyat,” he said.

A Central Bank of Myanmar officer said the FEC will be exchanged at face value: $1 for FEC1.
He said the addition of money changers at the airports was handy for tourists.

The airport official said tourists would also be able to change unused FEC back into their chosen currency – at the same rate – when leaving the country.

As of April 22, the market rate for $1 was K1000 and FEC1 was worth K1010.
