National Unity Government Statement (14/2022)

ဖော်ပြချက်/အကြောင်းအရာ:

"The terrorist military council illegally arrested State counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and she is currently being held in solitary confinement in a prison cell in Naypyidaw Prison. In Myanmar's political history, successive military dictators have tortured, arrested and killed a variety of ways many political leaders, activists, and innocent civilians all in an effort to assert their power. In this, the latest chapter of violence and oppression, it is clear that the junta are committing even more egregious human rights violations, war crimes, and crimes against humanity than ever before. On February 1, 2021, the terrorist group illegally attempted to dissolve the union government by force, an act recognised as criminal insurrection against the government in article 6 of the criminal code. In light of their many crimes and abuses, the CRPH declared the military council a terrorist organisation on March 1, 2021. Furthermore, trials and verdicts of courts operating under military control are null and void. The judicial and security personnel who continue to investigate, prosecute, and preside over cases within the military dictatorship's illegitimate system are complicit in a grievous crime and are viewed by the NUG Ministry of Justice as members of a criminal enterprise. The military have arrested all the political leaders, activists, protesters, and dissenters that they can. This includes the President and State Counsellor of Myanmar. The junta's political prisoners should be seen not as criminals, but as hostages; unjust victims of the military's oppression. Their welfare and lives are in grave danger. The situation is dire. According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), it is clear that the terrorist military council are in violation of the fundamental rights and values held by the United Nations and therefore, the international community. The military’s actions are not only incompatible with international human rights standards but also a blatant violation of the International Convention Against the Taking of Hostages, which the military government signed on June 4, 2004. Therefore, we would humbly like to urge all people fighting for democracy, people who respect human dignity and rights and the international community to continue to fight and stand with the people of Myanmar to fight for the release of all unjust detainees as soon as possible. The National Unity Government is continuously monitoring the situation of hostages and detainees in the interrogation camps and prisons, and efforts are being made to secure the freedom of all political prisoners..."
