Betel Receptacles

Betel-chewing has been a national habit in Myanmar for centuries. The great variety of betel receptacles have become a significant source for cultural research . The old Mon and Myanmar inscriptions described betel and items necessary to the eating of betel. The author has analyzed eighteen types of betel receptacles, some with insignias of one particular class, and others of more general nature. The different types of betel receptacles like Kwam: ac, Kwam: up, and Kwam: khawk are made of different materials that reflect the wealth and status of the user.
