HLUTTAW SESSIONS: Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (Union Parliament) Roundup: "Nay Pyi Taw, 27 Aug—Union Peace-Making Work Committee Vice Chairman Union Minister U Aung Min discussed the government?s ongoing efforts to achieve a nationwide ceasefire agreement at the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw session on Thursday. He said that despite attempts by successive governments to end armed struggles in Myanmar since the country won its independence, the complex political roots of various conflicts has made it difficult to find a solution. Therefore, President U Thein Sein has invited ethnic armed groups to take part in political dialogue with the aim of reaching a consensus for achieving peace. Union Minister U Aung Min also noted that the president Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (Union Parliament) Roundup has formed the Union Peace-Making Central Committee and Union Peace-Making Work Committee to speed up peace efforts. He praised the government for reaching 39 bilateral agreements with 15 ethnic armed groups. He went on to say that the Nationwide Ceasefire Coordination Team of the ethnic armed groups is currently negotiating the terms of a nationwide ceasefire agreement after signing Deed of Commitment for Peace and National Reconciliation..."...Pyithu Hluttaw: "Nay Pyi Taw, 27 Aug— Pyithu Hluttaw approved the amendment for the Industrial Bill at the Thursday?s session. Pyithu Hluttaw?s bill committee read out the salient points in the canal bill for mercantile marine transportation submitted by the Ministry of Transport. The Ministry of Transport also submitted the bill amending Myanmar Lighthouse Act while the Ministry of Rail Transportation presented the bill amending road transport. Speaker Thura U Shwe Mann announced successful completion of the Pyithu Hluttaw session after explaining the tasks of the 12th regular session of the Hluttaw. In the session, union level officials replied to 1,666 questions of 1,793. MPs have discussed 80 bills of 96 while there remain 16 bills in discussion process.".....
