"Today, 4th January 2023 is the 75th anniversary, the Independence Day. For sixty years, Myanmar suffered under the yoke of colonialism as a vassal state, during the era where more powerful nations took control over less powerful countries, subjugated, and exploited them, the world over. But due to the love for independence by the people and their endeavours, on Sunday 4th January 1948, (Myanmar calendar Waning day of Pyatho 9th 1309), on this auspicious day Myanmar was declared an independent country as Union of Myanmar. Even though Myanmar’s military forces played a significant role, together with the people’s struggle, in gaining the country’s independence, they started to put their interests before country and after becoming inured with the taste of power, the military leaders started to systematically dismantle institutions and transform the country to their benefit using their military might. And our country’s history is littered with coup d’état, and putsches and country has been under the military yoke for longer. But this is the era where the populace and the ethnic communities, together are not taking it lying down and are confronting a group of military dictators who are inhumane, excessive, and irrational compared to their predecessors, and who have illegally seized power from the people. We convey this commemorative message by urging all the organisations representing the people, Ethnic Revolution Organisations, and the people to follow their New Year Resolutions of eradicating the military dictatorship and creating the Federal Democracy Union as a common goal and follow in the footsteps of our forebearers where they garnered the spirit to fight off a force much stronger. Together we will go forth with this zeal and spirit, and we will uproot this military dictatorship and gain a second independence..."
