"Chinese President Xi Jinping hailed Myanmar's active participation in jointly building the Belt and Road during his meeting with Myanmar's State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi on Wednesday. Myanmar formed a steering committee for implementation of tasks relating to the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative chaired by Suu Kyi. The committee is tasked to implement works relating to the establishment of China-Myanmar economic corridor (CMEC) and China-Myanmar border economic cooperation zone under the Belt and Road Initiative. During the meeting, Xi expressed China's support for the domestic peace process and economic development in Myanmar and expected the two countries will further promote Belt and Road cooperation and the establishment of the CMEC in order to benefit two peoples.
