Description:
The Embassy represents Germany in Myanmar and promotes the political, economic, cultural and academic relations between both countries. The Embassy also offers consular protection to German nationals.
As many EU member states are not represented locally in Myanmar, the German Embassy offers consular protection and processes visa applications also for the following countries:
processing of Schengen visa applications for the countries Austria, Belgium, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Hungary, Luxemburg, Netherlands and Norway;
consular protection also for the citizens of Austria, Hungary, Luxemburg, Netherlands and Poland.
The main tasks of the Embassy include:
* collecting information on political, economic, social and cultural developments in Myanmar,
* reporting on issues of relevance to various authorities in Germany,
* helping German citizens in emergencies,
* processing of visa applications,
* assisting German companies and institutions in Myanmar,
* initiating and maintaining people-to-people contacts,
* promoting cultural and academic exchange,
* informing the Myanmar public about Germany,
* preparing and escorting high-level visits from Germany.

Germany is keen to continue fostering trade and investment ties with Myanmar, said Oliver Hoos, first secretary and head of the economic and commercial section at the German Embassy in Myanmar.
Description:
"Mr Hoos added that German businesses are also keen to invest in the Myanmar energy and agriculture sectors, adding to the US$32 million worth of investments by four other German businesses in Myanmar to-date, according to the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration.
The largest investment by a Germany company in Myanmar is Metro Wholesale, which has channeled approximately US$10 million into its business operations in the country.
Metro Wholesale is involved in food service distribution for hotels, restaurants, catering firms, independent small retailers and offices. It is a joint venture partnership between Metro AG, the German specialist in wholesale food and Yoma Strategic Holdings Limited, which is listed in Singapore. Metro Wholesale procures its raw materials directly from local farmers.
Meanwhile, total trade volumes between Myanmar and Germany surpassed US$580 million in 2017-18, with exports exceeding imports by US$180 million.
During the year, Myanmar exported a total of uS$380 million worth of goods, mainly garments and textiles, to Germany. It imports machinery and pharmaceutical products from Germany..."

"In his maiden bilateral meeting with his German equivalent, Momen outlined the four points proposed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the 74th United Nations General Assembly last month.
He also urged the European nation and the international community to take 'effective steps' to ensure that Myanmar facilitates the safe, secure, dignified and sustainable repatriation of the Rohingya refugees.
He also sought Germany’s support in ensuring accountability for the atrocities committed against Myanmar's Muslim minority group. During the meeting, Momen also highlighted the success story of Bangladesh as a 'development miracle' of the world and called on German businesses to invest in Bangladesh and take advantage of the country’s demographic dividend and lucrative promotion packages for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
The whole gamut of bilateral relations between the countries were discussed in the meeting, the foreign ministry said..."

"Myanmar-German Business Entrepreneurs Association held a conference on foodstuff processing, beverage production, packaging and machines at the meeting hall of Mandalay Region Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry on September 10.
At the conference, foodstuff entrepreneurs, and live stock breeding and agriculture entrepreneurs discussed packaging and market situations. Meat production was also discussed at livestock breeding sector. Market opportunities have been found in the meat production sector, but law expresses restrictions. Those present discussed sales and export as well.
"For example in poultry farming, the farmers bred hundreds of chickens in the past. Now, they are breeding tens of thousands of chicken. They need many machines. Packaging types are changing in the market, but not reached an encouraging level yet. Restrictions have been found in the meat production sector. There are many chances of exporting meat to foreign markets, but the poultry farmers can't enjoy good price due to unnecessary laws," said Dr Kyaw Htin of Mandalay Region Livestock Breeding Federation.
Now mangoes are being exported to foreign countries. Later mangoes are changed into value-added products and exported to foreign countries, but weaknesses are found in the packaging process.
The conference was jointly organized by Myanmar-German Business Entrepreneurs Association and German Industrial Engineering Association..."

_When recently the peaceful protests in Burma – re-named by the junta in Myanmar ("strong and fast") - were brutally suppressed, it was especially one picture that caused worldwide horror: the Japanese photographer Kenji Nagai being shot dead by a soldier. The assault rifle that fired the bullet looks like a G3 of Heckler & Koch (H&K), but might also be FAL of the Belgian producer FN Herstal. Either way there is a German connection: according to the well-informed Jane?s Infantry the Burmese army still uses the G3, which used to be the standard weapon No. 1 until a few years ago, as well as MG3 machine guns of Rheinmetall regularly. The FAL, according to the late grand expert on small arms Edward Ezell, had once been introduced to Burma from surplus stocks of the West German Bundeswehr-army._

This article gives an account of the Germans who lived in Burma or who visited the country between the beginnings of British rule in 1826 and the end of World War II. After surveying German-Burmese relations from 1826 until today, the manifold German engagement in Burma before World War I is detailed. This engagement was followed by a sharp decline in the number of Germans living in the country other than for short periods between the two great wars. After World War II, on the German side, there was almost no memory of German activities in Burma left. By contrast the Burmese kept and keep this memory very much alive.

Die Abgeordneten sprachen in Myanmar/Burma mit Politikern aus Regierungskreisen, mit Vertretern der Oppositionspartei Nationale Liga f?r Demokratie (NLD) sowie ethnischen Minorit?ten. H?hepunkt war ein Gespr?ch mit Aung San Suu Kyi. In den Gespr?chen ging es unter anderem um entwicklungspolitische Projekte, die als Teil internationaler Sanktionspolitik seit Jahren gr??tenteils eingefroren waren. Angelika K?ster-Lo?ack, die die internationale Sanktionspolitik jahrelang mitgetragen hatte, hat nach ihrer Reise nun eine andere Sicht darauf.
