"THE Criminal Investigation and
Prosecution Committee held
their first meeting at the office
of the Union Attorney-General
yesterday evening.
UAG U Tun Tun Oo, who is
also chairman of the committee,
first said ARSA attacked police
outposts, police stations and a
Tatmadaw battalion in northern
Rakhine State on 25 August 2017.
ARSA and security forces then
clashed after this.
The final report of the Independent
Commission of Enquiry
(ICOE) said crimes have been
committed during those conflicts
in 13 areas of Maungtaw, Buthidaung
and Yethedaung townships.
The crimes were said to
have been committed by ARSA
and its affiliates and by security
forces and civilians.
The UAG said they are to
investigate into these alleged
crimes and pursue legal action
where required. He said this
committee was formed with Order
19/2020 from the President’s
office on 24 January 2020.
The meeting was attended
by Deputy Attorney-General U
Win Myint who is the vice chairman
of the committee, committee
members and other invited
guests..."
