" Myanmar President's Office Wednesday announced the formation of an inquiry committee to investigate into a recent armed attack on a vehicle of the World Health Organization (WHO) carrying COVID-19 surveillance samples in Rakhine state.
The WHO vehicle transporting swab samples to the national laboratory in Yangon was attacked in Minbya township of Rakhine state on April 20, said the President's Office, killing the driver and wounding a health worker on board.
The newly formed four-member inquiry committee is chaired by U Saw, chairman of Citizens' Fundamental Rights Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, the presidential order said.
The inquiry committee is tasked to conduct field investigations at the area where the incident took place, to collect testimonies of witnesses, to acquire evidential materials and information, to gather views from the experts and others.
The committee is given rights to conduct the investigations in accordance with the country's Code of Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act as well as to question military, police personnel and other officials who are needed for the inquires..."
