"Amnesty International during February and March 2002 interviewed some 100 refugees
and migrant workers from the Shan, Akha, Lahu, Bama (Burman), Mon, Tavoyan, and
Karen ethnic groups at various locations in Thailand. The majority of them had been
forced to work for the Myanmar armed forces, and although some reported a recent
decrease in the practice, most of them told Amnesty International that they had to do
forced labour within the last year, some as recently as February 2002..."
