SSA ATTACKS HOMONG, CONFIRMED

15 February 1998 , S.H.A.N. News (SSA source from Maehongson report, 17:30)

	The SSA source from Maehongson reports, 17:30 hrs, that the brief fight
took place past midnight of 11 February to 12 February 01:30 hrs by the
Shan States Army Special Column led by Maj. Lern-herng a.k.a. Lone. The
attackers were about 30 strong. The defenders, a unit from LIB No.332 lead
by Maj. Than Aung, suffered 2 KIAs (killed in action) one of whom was a
sergeant. The SSA also captured two G4 automatic rifle together with 150
rounds of ammunitions and two grenades. The outpost at Parng Tawet, only 3
kilometers from Homong, was burned down by the attackers before their
triumphant departure.
