Suu Kyi continues drive for democracy
RANGOON, May 27 (UPI) - Opposition leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi on
Sunday said the National League for Democracy will continue to
strive for democracy the greater momentum.
Suu Kyi addressed a cheering audience of 10,000 - the largest
since she started making her weekend public appearances outside her
home following her release from house detention July 10.
She noted that Sunday's meeting of the NLD members of Parliament,
although only 20 strong, was a greater success than it would have
been had it been held as originally scheduled with all NHD members
in attendance. Some 235 were undergoing questioning by authorities
and could not attend the meeting.
"The reason is that we succeeded in holding it despite the all-
out efforts of the authorities to obstruct it," she said.
