of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw
approved membership
of Myanmar in the Asian
Infrastructure Investment
Bank sent by President U
Thein Sein.
The MPs also continued
the debate on the report
of the Constitutional
Amendment Implementation
Committee.
U Zaw Tun of Labutta
Constituency said that
although the current Constitution
was drawn with
the purpose to serve the
interests of the State and
the people, certain sections which are not conformity
with the present time need
to be amended.
Daw Khin Than Myint
of Ngaputaw Constituency
said that now is the time to
build trust, national unity
and eternal peace among
the national people. Therefore,
all the people are to
build a modern, developed
nation by upholding their
national duty with regard
to non-disintegration of the
union, non-disintegration
of national solidarity and
perpetration of sovereignty
and by practising a multiparty
democracy system
and market-oriented economic
system..."...Pyithu Hluttaw: Pyithu Hluttaw raises questions on
bill on discrimination against women,
vehicle import policy: Nay Pyi Taw, 24 Nov
— "The Pyithu Hluttaw
(Lower House) session on
Monday raised questions on
the enactment of a law protecting
females from violence
and the vehicle import
policy.
Concerning the law
protecting females from
violence, Deputy Minister
for Home Affairs Brig-Gen
Kyaw Zan Myint said that
females are protected from
physical, mental and sexual
violence by their fundamental
rights in accordance with
the state Constitution, existing
laws, and traditions.
Myanmar signed the
Convention on the Elimination
of All Forms of Discrimination
against Women
(CEDAW) in 1997 to cooperate
with the international
community in women?s affairs, according to the deputy
minister.
In addition, the Ministry
of Social Welfare,
Relief and Resettlement is
drafting a bill to protect females
from abuse and gender-
based violence due to
socioeconomic conditions,
conservative traditions and
conflicts in cooperation
with ministry officials, parliamentary
representatives,
representatives of political
parties, legal experts, CSOs
and NGOs working for gender
equality and representatives
of the United Nations
Gender Theme Group, the
deputy minister added...Regarding the vehicle
import policy, Union Minister
for Commerce U Win
Myint said that while the
ministry has permitted the
public to import vehicles
regardless of whether they
are left-hand drive or righthand
drive since 2009, it is
taking measures to allow
only the importation of lefthand
drives of the previous
model year in 2015.
The Ministry of Commerce
issues import permits
for vehicles while the
Customs Department levies
import duties and the Directorade
of Road Administration
registers the vehicles,
according to the minister.
However, the union
minister said the ministry
has no plans to inspect imported
cars as to whether
they meet international

— "The bill committee of
the Amyotha Hluttaw submitted
the anti-dumping
bill sent back with some
changes to the Amyotha
Hluttaw (Upper House)
session on Monday.
The differences between
the two chambers
will be discussed at the Pyidaungsu
Hluttaw.
Then, the Amyotha
Hluttaw approved the condominium
bill and the second
amendment bill of the
ward/village tract administration
law sent back with
some changes by the Pyithu
Hluttaw.
In addition, the commission
tasked with implementation
of a proportional
representation system submitted
its findings to the
