Pyithu Hluttaw 16 June, 2015: Authorities to take preventive measures against DHF in Kyaukpyu [incl. illegal use of pavements and the sewerage lanes in the urban area]

"Nay Pyi Taw, 16 June — Arrangements have been made for dredging drains in urban area of Kyaukpyu, Rakhine State, to prevent outbreak of dengue haemorrhagic fever, Deputy Minister at the President Office U Kyaw Kyaw Win replied to questions of U Ba Shein of Kyaukpyu constituency at the Tuesday?s session of Pyithu Hluttaw. The MP asked about infection of DHF in Sanpya, Zeditaung and Rakhine Paikseik wards in Kyaukpyu due to blocks of drains in the rainy season, reclamation of new wards for odd-job people and the plan for taking action against illegal use of pavements, sewerage lanes and vacant areas. He said that local authorities cooperate with Public Health Department and volunteers in carrying out sanitation for prevention of common diseases in the rainy season such as malaia, DHF and elephantiasis in Kyaukpyu and for raising public awareness of health knowledge with health care services at schools and hospitals. U Kyaw Kyaw Win added that departments concerned will scrutinize the illegal use of pavements and the sewerage lanes in the urban area and seek legal advices from the departments for managing the use of vacant lands. In doing so, local authorities will provide assistance for needy persons in cooperation with social organizations."
