"Nay Pyi Taw, 10 Nov— Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Monday approved Myanmar is to join the Basel
Convention as a signatory like the other nine ASEAN member countries.
The Basel Convention on the Control of Trans-boundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and
their Disposal was adopted in March 1989 by the Conference of Plenipotentiaries in Base,
Switzerland.
This international treaty was designed to reduce movements of hazardous waste between nations
and to prevent transfer of hazardous waste from developed to less developed countries.
During its 22th day session of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw also discussed allotment of additional union
budget for 2014-2015 fiscal year, with explanation of Union Minister for Finance U Win Shein
on the projects which will need more budgets.
The union ministers also held discussions on the use of budgets for this fiscal year.
U Win Than, representative of Thabaung Township constituency submitted his objection to the
release of Pyiduangsu Hluttaw on the announcement of treasury sanctions of the United States
against Pyithu Hluttaw representative U Aung Thaung on 31 October.
U Win Than said that this Executive Order (E.O.) 13448 has tarnished the efforts of Myanmar
parliament and parliamentarians on peace-making efforts, national reconciliation and rule of
laws, as well as the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
The Pyidaungsu Hluttaw accepted his objection, and decided to make further release on it."
