and Population U Thein
Swe received Special Envoy of
the UN Secretary-General on
Myanmar, Ms Christine Schraner
Burgener, and her delegation
at his ministry in Nay Pyi Taw
yesterday.
During the meeting, both
sides exchanged views on the
ministry’s efforts in issuing
National Verification-NV cards
across the nation and in Rakhine
State, how the NV cards allow
people to apply for citizenship,
distributing appropriate cards
during the processing period,
how the NV card verify the holder
lives in Myanmar and allows freedom
to travel in the designated
region and other benefits.
They also discussed organizing
for both sides in Rakhine
to live together peacefully, opening
and maintaining Taung Pyo
Letwe and Nga Khu Ya reception
centres for receiving returnees
from Bangladesh, the lack of returnees
despite the best efforts of
both nations, holding Technical
Working Group -TWG meetings,
cooperating with the UNDP and
UNHCR, holding meetings with
the JWG for repatriation processes,
the ministry’s review of
the IDP list sent from Bangladesh,
international cooperation
on repatriation efforts, providing
requested information on
the ministry and its processes
and the UN Special Envoy’s
support on accomplishing them..."
