"MYANMAR has made preparations
to receive displaced persons
from Rakhine, who are currently
residing in Bangladesh, as part
of a bilateral agreement with the
neighbouring country, but, there
have been no returnees yet.
On 21 August, the Union
Minister for Labour, Immigration
and Population, U Thein Swe, the
Union Minister for Social Welfare,
Relief and Resettlement and the
Chairman of the Committee on
Repatriation and Resettlement
of Displaced People, Dr Win Myat
Aye, the Deputy Minister for the
Office of the State Counsellor, U
Khin Maung Tin, and officials
held a meeting with Rakhine
State authorities in Sittway, Rakhine
State on the repatriation and
resettlement of displaced people.
The meeting was also attended
by Rakhine State Chief
Minister U Nyi Pu, members of
the Rakhine State Cabinet, and
departmental officials.
At the meeting, Union Minister
Dr Win Myat Aye said Myanmar
has made preparations to
keep everything in readiness for
repatriation, in accordance with
the agreement with Bangladesh.
He said the ASEAN Coordinating
Centre for Humanitarian
Assistance on disaster management
(AHA Centre) and the
ASEAN-Emergency Response
and Assessment Team (ASEAN-
ERAT) have promised to
cooperate in promoting capacity
building at the Reception centres
and Hla Pho Khaung Transit Centre,
for disseminating information,
and providing basic services
to returnees..."
