THE Committee for Supporting
Peace and Stability in Rakhine
State met with officials from the
National League for Democracy, Rakhine State Legal Support
Group and Municipal Development Committee, experts on
Rakhine and local elders at the
State Cabinet’s Guesthouse in
Sittway yesterday.
The Committee Chairman
U Aye Tha Aung, who is also
Deputy Speaker of the Amyotha
Hluttaw, first delivered a speech.
He said this meeting has brought
individuals with political experience to figure out long-term and
short-term solutions to Rakhine
State’s armed conflicts and stability.
He said this is the committee’s third observation trip
to Rakhine State. In the previous trips, the meetings invited
monks, political parties, local elders, civil society organizations
and experienced individuals to
share their perspectives and the
true situation faced by the people
in Rakhine State, said U Aye Tha
Aung. He added that every comment was compiled into a report
and submitted to the President.
U Aye Tha Aung said the
committee’s main responsibility
is to meet every relevant person and compile a report without leaving a single comment
or suggestion out. He said the
committee also responds to consequences from armed conflicts
to best of their abilities. He said
this meeting has invited people with sufficient experience
in politics and Rakhine affairs.
He urged attendees to discuss
all possible solutions to reduce
conflicts in Rakhine State and
ways to provide aid to innocent
citizens caught in the negative
consequences of conflicts.
Following the Chairman’s
speech, attendees began discussions on finding political solutions to Rakhine’s armed
conflicts, resettling IDPs to
their homes and ensuring security, supporting their social,
health and vocational matters,
arranging for students in IDP
camps to attend schools nearby,
and short/long-term solutions to
implement peace and stability
in Rakhine State. The Chairman then delivered the closing
speech.
In the afternoon, U Aye Tha
Aung and his delegation met with
the State Chief Minister U Nyi
Pu, the state cabinet, State Hluttaw Speaker U San Kyaw Hla
and Hluttaw representatives at
the State Cabinet’s Guesthouse.
U Aye Tha Aung first delivered a speech and attendees
then discussed current affairs
in Rakhine State, matters related to the IDPs, and state peace,
stability and development.
U Aye Tha Aung and his delegation departed from Sittway
to Yangon in the evening. They
were seen off at Sittway Airport
by U Nyi Pu and the state cabinet.
