"The Ministry of Social Welfare,
Relief and Resettlement held
a coordination meeting on the
UN’s aid proposal for the people
displaced armed conflicts in
Rakhine State and in Paletwa
Township, Chin State, yesterday.
Speaking at the meeting,
Deputy Minister U Soe Aung
told participants to discuss the
UN’s proposal in detail, which
seeks to provide aid to IDPs in
Paletwa Township of Chin State
and Buthidaung, Yathedaung,
Kyauktaw, MraukU, Minbya,
Ponnagyun and Pauktaw townships
of Rakhine State.
Since 18 December 2018,
the ministry has provided K1.1
billion worth of food, rescue
equipment and financial aid to
over 65,000 people from more
than 16,000 households displaced
by fighting, said the Deputy Minister.
He said regional organizations
and donors have also supported
the various temporary
shelters which house approximately
22,000 each. He said
the Red Cross Movement and
WFP have provided food, rescue
equipment, crop seeds and
fertilizers, and opened mobile
clinics. He said they will carefully
consider the UN’s and international
organizations’ request to
provide assistance.
The meeting then commenced
and participants discussed
the proposals for providing
assistance with food
security, nutrition, roofing and
rescue equipment, education,
healthcare, water purification
and protecting vulnerable populations.
They also discussed their
willingness to cooperate with
the Union Government, current
tasks, and petitions for the
emergency response fund from
UN and other funds.
Department representatives
then discussed the prioritized
tasks and proposals of
their respective ministry..."
