"The military dictators illegally arrested and imprisoned 15 members of the NLD Pegu Division, Pegu Township organising committee of which three are women. They are innocent and have not offended the law but have been kept in solitary confinement since the 22 May 2000 at the No 1, Pegu jail. These individuals are nationals who of their own free will are working towards the attainment of democracy in the country. We have received information that they are being interrogated by a detachment of the military intelligence unit 3 and police personnel under very cruel and torturous conditions with hoods over their faces for entire days and nights..."
