DR. SASA'S MESSAGE ON 34th ANNIVERSARY OF CHIN REVOLUTION DAY

Description:

"Today marks the 34th anniversary of Chin Revolution Day, a day on which we honour the bravery of those Chin who fought for their self-determination and national rights, for the dream of freedom and federal democracy. Today also marks the formation of the Chin National Front/Army (CNF/A) in 1988. The Chin people have been fighting for their rights since the British colonial period. Following independence, Chin people participated in democratic government which was tragically taken from them and all of Myanmar when the dictator Ne Win staged his coup in 1962 and seized power from the democratically elected federal government. Ever since then, the Chin, a major ethnic group in Myanmar, and overwhelmingly Christian, have been subject to widespread ethnic and religious persecution. The continuous oppression, abuse and attacks on the Chin people are predominantly committed by Myanmar military and police, who frequently violate the rule of law. Chin people are often subjected to forced labor, arbitrary arrests, torture, and extrajudicial killings – crimes whose perpetrators are never brought to justice. This has resulted in a mass of refugees fleeing to neighboring countries, especially India. Human Rights Watch (HRW) has conducted several interviews with refugees from Chin to document the abuse which has taken place in Chin state by the military. It is due to this ongoing abuse and torture, that the CNF and its armed branch, the Chin National Army (CNA), were first formed and gained momentum during the 8888 uprising. And the fight against the fascist military continues till today, in which Chin people have shown their determination and willingness through CNF/A, Civil Disobedient Movement (CDM), several local Chinland Defense Forces (CDF)to carry the fight through to the end, never giving up on the dreams of self- determination, freedom and federal democracy. Our Chin brethren, together with all other Myanmar people, share our mutual goal of achieving true self-determination and federal democracy by eradication of the genocidal military and repressive dictatorships. We must stay united and fight until we can rip out the genocidal military and their fascism root and stem. To my fellow Chin brothers and sisters, I want to thank you all for your bravery and I want to send my sincere wish that the sufferings of Chin people will end with the fall of the genocidal military, and that we will achieve the future Myanmar where true self-determination, freedom and federal democracy awaits us. May God bless Chinland, May God bless Myanmar and May God bless Ukraine..."
