Re: Press release 12/98 of Myanma Embassy, Tel- Aviv
Friends,
When ever I read articles or messages posted by O K, I used to delete
them in my mail box spontaneousely. This time it worry me a bit and I
feel obliged that I should make a little respond.
Let me respond paragraph by paragraph but not all the words and contents
in the paragraphs.
1/ It is understandable facts that significant progress has been
acheived in uniting the nation as well as bringing arm insurrection to an
end. When Tamadaw assumed
responsibilty in 1988, the country was on the verge of disintegration
through chao and anarchy. Tamadaw was able to bring back condition of
peace, stability and law and order.
Is that the best way to prevent disintegration of the
nation by killing more than 3,000 peaceful demonstrators who voiced
their greivances in Rangoon city alone? SPDC / SLORC soldiers were not
satisfied with killing the people on the streets. They continued pursuing
the people to their homes and at the hospitals to continue their
killings. Is continued killings of innocent villagers, enslaving them and
raping them in the Minority areas also to prevent the nation from
disintegration?
2/ The Tamadaw Government, State Peace and Development Council, has no
intention of holding the power indefinitely since it is the believe of
the Armed Forces that State power belongs to the people and must return
to them. Beautiful and flowery words! If that is the case, why not
return the power to the peoples' representative NLD party members whom
the people had chosen as their representatives.
3/ To day Myanmar is enjoying peace and stability and is poised to
achieve further progress and development.
That peace and stability is meant for SPDC alone. It
is not meant for NLD
party members and parliamentary representatives who have been imprisoned
after ill treatment and torture by the MIS. It is not meant for innocent
Shan villagers who have
been murdered by SPDC soldiers recently. It is not meant for Karen
villagers in Papun district whose villages and rice barns had been
torched to ashes by SPDC soldiers. It is not meant for Karen villagers
in Paan district who have been put in front of SPDC soldiers to
detonate the land mines. One story that touched me is that when SPDC
patrol column demanded a group of women from Sgaw Ko village to go along
with them, the village head man did not allow this to happen. He knew the
danger but he volunteered to go with the patrol column. He died instantly
of land mine
explosion. In spite of condemnation of extensive human right abuses by
the world community, how can SPDC claim that peace and stability prevail
in the nation.
4/ In its edeavour to gain power by short cut NDL is indulging in hasty
and irrationale
acts which can only cause harm to existing peace, stability and economic
development of the nation.
NLD did not try to gain
power by short cut. It is a ligitimate organization which won election
and it acted according to the Rule of Law. They are not acting hastily.
They have been waiting for 8 long years and it is the SPDC which did not
have the gut to hand over the power to its ligitimate owner mandated by
the people. It is an act of cowardy from the part of the SPDC. With
regards to economic development, I can see only the increase of the
Military budget and enlargement of the Army from 150,000 to 450,000.
within l0 years of SPDC/SLORC tenue. It is not the people of Burma who
reap the fruits of economic development..Please also see my
letter on September l7."Man made poverty and misery".
5/ The common attitutes of the nationaliities groups can be seen in
their declaration are: The nationalities groups have made peace with
Government with the aim of maintaining peace and endeavouring for their
regional development; the acts of NLD
are in contravene with existing Myanmar Laws and not be supported; only
the present
Government could bring peace and development of the entire people and the
nation; vow to cooperate with the Government to build a modernized nation
in which discipline democracy flourishes.
When the
nationalities made declaration with their own free wil MIS invited them,
threatened them and put pressure on them so much that some groups had to
modify their declaration. Contrary to what the SPDC statement that SPDC
have no intention of holding on power indefinitely, Disciplined
Democracy ,a system which will perpetuate their holding of power is being
mentioned again. The people of Burma are no longer ignorant. They do not
want disciplined democracy. They do not want SPDC's out moded system. Has
the SPDC not learned lesson from its mentor Indonesian Suhato yet?
6/ With the concern of the NLD unlawful activity, peoples' rallies were
held in Yangon,
Mandalay, Sagaing, Monywa, Pyay, Pago, Mawlamyaing, Kengtun etc.
Well, Being
Government employee myself under the
Burma Military Regime for some times, I know that rallies are not held
voluntarily. It is the order and disobedience will only result in loosing
your job.
7/ Like any government in the world, the present Government has the
fundamental obligation to protect the rights of all its citizens. To
bring a better life for the people of Myanma, the NLD's unlawful acts to
undermine peace and stability must be prevented from doing harm.
If NLD, in doing its
party duties, have undermined any peace and stability please show me one
example how NLD had done it. The acts of
NlD are ligitimate and only SPDC is unlawfully hanging and clinging on to
power which is not mandated by the people..
Well, SPDC is trying to mend its tarnished image agressively, but I do
not think it will work unless the words are supported by sincere actions.
They spent hundred thousands of dollars on PR jobs, but it did not work
out properly. The SPDC have had
many opportunities to make real peace with minority groups and opposition
parties
but regretably, it choose the opposite trends. There is a Burmese Saying
" Art net ma twin Hsauk net twin." It means the hole which can be made
by the needle has to be
done by the big Axe.
With Best Regards.
