Burma envoy calls on Bangladesh president

Outgoing Ambassador of Burma to Bangladesh U Thand Myint Yesterday paid a farewell call on Bangladesh president Prof Dr Iajuddin Ahmed at presidential House in Dhaka, said an official report.

The Burma ambassador informed the Bangladesh president that Burma military government is eagerly waiting to work with the next government in Bangladesh, which would be installed in power through next coming election.

During the meeting, Bangladesh president requested the government of Burma to quickly complete the ongoing construction work of Bangladesh- Burma highway.

Bangladesh president also conveyed his heartiest felicitation and greetings to Burma military junta’s chief General Than Shwe through the envoy.

Later, Burma Ambassador met Advisor of Bangladesh power, energy and Mineral Resources, Communications, food and Disaster Manageent and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs minister Major General (Retd) Ruhul Alam Chowdhury at his secretariat office in Dhaka.

During the meeting, they discussed matter of bilateral interests and the progress of the construction of Bangladesh-Burma Highway and Bangladesh-Burma India gas pipeline, an official handout said.

Besides, power purchase from Burma and feasibility of establishment of hydropower plant in Burma by Bangladesh's investment also came up for discussion at the meeting.

The official handout said that Bangladesh advisor told in the meeting that the existing relations between the two countries would further strength in the days to come. #
