Two soldiers from the Burmese
army along with two local people robbed a house in Buthidaung
Township on 22 December, taking a large amount of cash from the house, stated a
police report. The incident took place in a village of Wet Makya under Thigan Guason Village Tract in Buthidaung Township, 80 miles north of the state capital Akyab. A police source said four people, two of
whom were army personnel, entered a house belonging to Mr. Mamudsedi,
son of Nawbi Husong, around
2 p.m. and tied up Mr. Mamusedi
inside the house. The dacoits then took 150,000 kyats
from the house. After the incident, the villager filed a complaint
about the robbery at the police station near the village. The township police
department caught the four culprits red-handed and recovered the money a day
after the crime took place. The two army personnel who were
involved are a sergeant and a private, from Light Infantry Battalion 551 based
in Buthidaung, while the other two culprits are local
civilians.
