23 Bangladeshi Prisoners Returned by Burma

Burmese authorities handed over 23 prisoners to Bangladesh authorities at yesterday's flag meeting that was held in the western Burmese border town of Maungdaw, reports a source quoting local officials.

"Yes, it was the truth, the Bangladesh Rifles accepted yesterday its people from Burmese authorities in Maungdaw," the source reported.

A Bangladesh delegation led by Bangladesh Rifles Battalion 23 based in Teknaf Town, the southernmost town of Bangladesh, attended the meeting and received the prisoners after the meeting was over.

On the Burmese side, Major Thu Rain Zaw led the team consisting of several Nasaka and army intelligence officials.

The meeting started around 10 a.m. and finished after five hours of discussion between the two groups.

Most of the prisoners returned to Bangladesh are woodcutters and fishermen who were arrested by Burma's border security force while they were working within Bangladesh territory, stated the source
