Two Arakanese organizations hold rallies for Daw Suu's birthday in Dhaka

Two Arakanese organizations, Democratic Force of Arakan (DFA) and Rakhaing Women Union (RWU), both in exiles, held rallies to commemorate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's birthday in
Dhaka yesterday.  Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has turned 60 years old.

Activists of the Democratic Force of Arakan (DFA) held a demonstration in front of the high court in
Dhaka yesterday, demanding the immediate release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners of Burma.

Over 70 activists from the DFA chanted various slogans like “we want democracy” and “we demand the immediate release of Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners from the jails” during the two hour long demonstration, which started at 10 am.

The demonstrators also carried banners and placards inscribed with demands for the immediate release of their leader Suu Kyi.

U Shwe Kyaw Aung, director of DFA,
Dhaka, pointed out that their movement is for the restoration of democracy in Burma and the immediate release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest.

Rakhaing Women Union (RWU) also held a discussion meeting on Daw Suu's sixtieth birthday at the National Press Club of Dhaka.

Several political leaders and social activists from Bangladesh attended and spoke at the meeting, including: Awami League leader KM  Jahangir; Human Rights activist Khushi Kabir; Worker Party leader  Haider Akbar Khan Rano; Bangladesh Society for the Enforcement of Human Right activist Aleana Khan; Rakhaing Development Foundation president U Chit Maung and RWU leaders.

Saw Mra Raza Lunn, the chairperson of RWU said “Suu Kyi’s release is essential as it would be the first step towards Burma’s democracy”.

The speakers in the meeting acknowledged over 1350 political prisoners across
Burma who were with Nobel Peace prize winner Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in 1991.  Daw Suu is the daughter of Burmese national hero General Aung San.

They also urged world leaders to seek her release and work for establishing Democracy in
Burma.

A number of world leaders including American President George W Bush, former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathiha Mohmad and South African Nobel prize winner Desmond Tutu strongly demanded the Burmese military government to release Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest unconditionally.#
