Newly appointed Arakan
Governor tours the state
Newly appointed Arakan Governor, or 'Chairman of Arakan
state Peace and Development Council', Brig-Gen Khin Maung Myint,
arrived at Toung Bro, a westernmost border town of
Burma close to Bangladesh, to inspect many worksites there, on 10 June, said
townspeople.
The tour is a part of his first official journey after he was posted as the
chief of Arakan state by
Before this trip to Taung Bro, he toured a number of places in Arakan, including: southern Arakan
state; the state capital Akyab; the ancient city of Mrauk Oo; the town of Palawa
along the border with India and two other border towns, Buthi
Daung and Maungdaw.

As the area is a strategic
point for Burmese trade and military operations, most high-ranking officials
visit this area whenever they arrive in the north of Arakan
state.
Brig-Gen Khin Maung Myint is a former commander of
the Eastern Command of Shan state. Recently he was shifted to Arakan state after the Burmese military made a major
reshuffle at the army regional commander level.
In reshuffle, the former Arakan state chairman as well as the Western Command
commander Brig-Gen Min Aung Haling was shifted to the Triangle Region of Shan
state, just 3 months after he served on the Arakan
state Peace and Development Council.
The Military government recently made a major reshuffle among 6 military
divisional commanders including Madalay,
Brig-Gen
Khin Maung Myint has become the fifth chairman
of Arakan, after Min Aung Hlaing, since the SPDC came
to power in 1988.#
