Arakanese worker killed by snooker owner in Malaysia

An Arankanese worker named Kyaw Kyaw Htun passed away in a Malaysian hospital after succumbing to injuries inflicted in a gang beating.

The man was accosted by a gang of snooker casino owners on 28 May, who accused him along with 3 other Arakanese workers of stealing money from a video game casino owned by one of the gang members.

After being abducted by the gang, the man was severely tortured and beaten.  When other Arakanese workers at nearby factories heard about the incident they went to a nearby police station to make a complaint.

A team of police went to the snooker owner's house, where the owner said the man had been beaten by a group of dacoit after refusing to pay them money.

Malaysian police sent him to Unit Foven Sin Hospital Putrajaya for treatement, but the man passed away on 29 May.

Arakanese workers from that area went to the Burmese embassy to inform them of the murder, but the Burmese authorities asked for valid testimonials from the Burmese police department of his native town and his parents before taking any necessary actions.

It has been learnt that the body of the deceased is still in the hospital of Unit Foven Sin Hospital Putrajaya, Prisent-9, (bilik Mayat), Malaysia.

The man had come to Malaysia in 2002 with a valid passport and work permit from Mrauk U of Arakan state, Burma.  He left a wife and 5 year old daughter in Arakan state. #
