Another Burmese refugee woman arrested for spying

A Burmese Muslim refugee woman was arrested by Bangladesh police, suspected of having a connection with Burmese military intelligence.

According to a report in a local Bengali newspaper, The Daily Ajkerdeshbidesh, at 10 a.m. on 27 May 2005 a police team picked up the woman from Kutupalong refugee camp in the district of Cox's Bazaar, the southernmost district of Bangladesh.

Her name has not been revealed, however, the Daily reported her refugee identification card number as M.R.C 51582.

The newspaper quoted Bangladesh police as saying the woman has connections with the Burmese border security force, Nasaka, and was sending important information to a Burmese military agent after collecting it in Bangladesh.

The woman was sent to Cox’'s bazaar district court yesterday for remand.

On 19 May, four Burmese Muslim refugees from the same refugee camp were also arrested by Bangladesh police for spying on behalf of Burmese intelligence. #
