4 Burmese Refugees Arrested for Spying

 

Four Muslim Burmese refugees were arrested by Bangladeshi police, suspected of having a connection with Burmese military intelligence, according to a local Bengali newspaper, The Danik Cox’sbazar.

 

A police patrol team led by inspector Muniri Hoke from Okia police station arrested them in the village of Romkhapalong in Okia Township, Bangladesh at 11 pm on 19 May 2005.

 

The arrestees were identified as Robe Along Shibeyo (20), Sana Sular (18), Muhamad Salim (17) and Oweyaw Ahmad. All are from Kutupalong refugee camp in Okia Township.

 

According to police sources, the arrested refugees used to send important information to Burmese military agents after collecting it from the Bangladeshi side of the border.

 

The arrestees are being held at Okia police station and will be sued by Bangladesh’s Foreigner Act No-(14). #
