THE discovery of small gold and silver Buddha images and other artifacts in central Myanmar late last month was proof that Buddhism was firmly established in the country before the Christian era, the Ministry of Culture said in a news release on May 28. It said the 26 artifacts, including 11 gold Buddha images and two silver images, were found the previous day at Mai Maw, the site of an ancient Pyu city about 50 miles south of Mandalay.
