THIS week’s meeting of ASEAN Economic Ministers plus their counterparts from Japan, China and South Korea is shaping up to be one of the most critical since Myanmar’s move towards a free market after 1988. The overtones of such a meeting being held in Yangon have escaped few and David Abel, Myanmar’s ASEAN Minister, says the nation’s door is being held ajar by Myanmar for the whole of East Asia.
