Mapping Myanmar's
wildlife
WITH great
foresight Myanmar is embracing a philosophy of increasing its nature
reserves and public forests from the present 18 per cent of the
country’s total area to 30pc – making it one of the most enlightened
countries in the region for protecting and enhancing endangered
flora and fauna. This exciting area has seen some astounding
scientific surprises, notably the discovery of new species in the
country’s far north. Near-extinct wildlife are also being actively
mapped. The by-product is immense cooperation between US and other
overseas NGO’s with the nation’s wilderness experts.
