 Ø Certain goods from India and Bangladesh pass through Rangoon Ports in containers direct to China by road. The goods are Beef sausages and tripe which, the report says, the Chinese chefs turn into very popular dishes.

 Ø The mayor of Baoshan, Yunan Province, said that plans are underway to upgrade the highway from Baoshan to Tekchaung district which had a roadlink to Myitkyina in Myanmar. This would raise Border and Normal Trade relations, increase Tourism.

 Ø Ivanhoe Mining Co. announces copper production will be increased by 40% in the last quarter of this year bringing production of high-quality copper to 39,000 tons. This will be increased to 50,000 tons when they move into the second phase. There are 4 mines and the company has discovered that the Sabai-taung mine holds deposits of very high-quality copper and negotiations are underway (presumably with the Mines Ministry) for working the new mine.

The Asia Green Environmental Company of Malaysia is looking to enter the Myanmar market with Bio-composit Fertilising Machines. They are also looking to China and S. American countries.

Ø India may be ready to sell fuel oil to Myanmar from Assam to Tamu on the border. The idea is that getting the oil from India for the Tamu region instead of having to send it up from Rangoon is cheaper.

Ø A Social Organisation of Japan (JGGA) provides money to build three primary schools in Thanhlyin, Maubin (Ayeyarwaddy Division) and Mingaladon (Rangoon) How much not stated.

Ø Export of timber logs to be stopped next year. Private companies in the forest products business have been urged to increase efforts to produce teak and hardwood products for sale abroad which would earn more than sale of logs.
