Burma Appreciates Bangladesh for Repatriation of Its 172 Citizens

 

Chittagong, June 12: Burma has appreciated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all concerned authorities of the ministry of Home Affairs, and the Bangladesh Rifles for the speedy repatriation of 172 Burmese nationals, said a press release yesterday of Burmese Foreign Ministry.

 

172 Burmese prisoners were sent back to Burma after negotiation between the two neighboring countries on April 27, 2005. Afterwards, the Bangladesh authorities gathered all the Burmese prisoners in Cox’s Bazar jail who had already finished their jail terms.

 

Bangladesh authority faces problem with 151 Burmese prisoners in Cox’s Bazar jail as Burmese military junta does not accept, according to “The daily Bhakkhali”, a local news paper.

 

A note sent by the Burmese Embassy recently said that the repatriated Burmese nationals had been sent back to their respective domiciles.

 

“The persons repatriated and their families have also expressed their deep gratitude to the concerned authorities of the Bangladesh,” the said press release further added.

 

“The Embassy feels that without the cooperation extended by all concerned this though job would not have been done and the Embassy hopes to continue getting such cooperation from the authorities and officials of the various ministries and departments of the government,” the note said. ##
