Rohingya Crisis to be solved as early as Possible

 

Chittagong, June 09: Rohingyas refugee crisis will be resolved as early as possible through bilateral talks, Asadul Habib, State Minister for Food and Disaster Management told Parliament responding to volley queried during the question hour, according to UNB report of 8th June 2005.   

 

Bangladesh hopes that the camp standing Rohingya refugee problem would be resolved as early as possible through bilateral discussion with Burma.

 

The minister further said some 20,000 refugee are still stranded in two camps in Cox’s Bazaar District of Bangladesh after repatriating 130,000 Rohingyas refugees to Burma since 1991. Not single penny was spent for the refugees during the last 3 years” he added.

 

Replying to Jatiya Party lawmaker Golam Habib Dalu, he said a process was underway to send back the remaining refugees to their native country.

 

He also said that the government received the 38,108,487 from UNHCR in 2004 to support the Rohingya refugees in the camps.

 

When asked a refugee from Nayapara camp about their ration, he said, the following items are provided by concerned authorities.

A refugee leader said, “At present there is no forced repatriation and only voluntary repatriation is existed.”

 

When asked a refugee leader from Kutupalong camp, “We want to go back to our motherland. But, we do not want to go back to our homes till the present ruling military junta is relaxed and withdrawn. ##
