Many get the sick after Heatstroke in Burmese refugee camps

 

Cox’s Bazaar, June 8: Many refugees get the sick in Burmese refugee camps in southern Cox’s Bazaar District of Bangladesh due to excessive heat, said Jaber, ex-doctor who worked in refugee camp before.

 

About 30,000 Rohingya refugees are staying in three refugee camps, namely Nayapara, Kutupalong and Dumdumia makeshift which is unregistered and illegal till today. The refugees have been suffering from water crisis through hot weather since May, he further added.

 

Due to excessive heat and water crisis refugees are getting the sick day by day such as-- diarrhea, skin disease and etc…

 

“The crisis of water have made our life unbearable amid excessively hot weather, many people are suffering from various diseases in the camp” Shabbir, a school teacher confirmed to Kaladan Press.

 

He added that the situation is worse for the aged, the sick and children, as many people have to stay in a small room with together while the roofing of the sheds are with plastics.

 

Many children and men are staying out of the rooms and on the streets, passing their nights as it has become impossible to stay in room of the shed due to excessive heat.

 

Meanwhile, refugees of the camps request to the UNHCR to solve the water crisis as early as possible and better treatment as they can survive their lives, from the sick of excessive heat, said a leader of refugee camp.

 

Heat stroke caused by the extreme heat wave persisting over the Bangladesh killed at least 10 people on 1st June including 3 women and hundreds of patience has been seeking treatment for dehydration and diarrhea at clinics and hospitals. The highest temperature 42.5degree Celsius was recorded on 2nd June at Rajshahi, reported in Daily Star. ##
