Bangladesh Authority Faces Problem with 151 Burmese Prisoners

 

Cox’s Bazar, June 1: Bangladesh authority faces problem with 151 Burmese prisoners in Cox’s Bazar jail, according to “The daily Bhakkhali”, a local news paper, yesterday.

 

About 172 Burmese prisoners were sent back to Burma after negotiation between the two neighboring countries on 27th April. Afterwards, the Bangladesh authorities gathered all the Burmese prisoners in Cox’s Bazar jail who had already finished their jail terms.

 

According to the local Newspaper report, Bangladesh authorities requested many times to receive the remaining Burmese prisoners. But, Burmese authorities rejected to accept 151 remaining prisoners that the reason is unknown.

 

Bangladesh authorities gathered the Burmese prisoners in one place to repatriate their motherland after requesting by them to Bangladesh government, the paper further reported.

 

The prisoners are mostly male including women and have been facing many troubles in Bangladesh jail since many years ago. Bangladesh government wants to send back all the prisoners to Burma as the Burmese prisoners are the extra burden for Bangladesh.

 

According to Roshid Ahamed, a Burmese prisoner in Cox’s Bazar, he said, “Some prisoners’ jail terms have been finished for 5 to 6 years since their sentences have been given out.”

 

At present, there are about 400 Burmese prisoners have been serving in Bangladesh jails, sources said. ##
