BRAJ Celebrated a Dinner Party together with AI

Japan, June 2: Burmese Rohingya Association in Japan (BRAJ) and Amnesty International met over a dinner party on May 15 at the Tabetayashi City Hall in Tokyo.

The dinner was arranged to celebrate the release of Abdul Kalam — a BRAJ member — from a yearlong immigration detention. A long-term refugee status for Musharaf Hussain was also celebrated. Zaw Min Htut — BRAJ president told Kaladan Press Network.

More than a hundred guests, of them a large number of BRAJ members, took part in the dinner meet

The dinner tried drawing Japanese attention towards the plight of the Rohingya people in Arakan, Burma. Reportedly, the ruling military junta in Burma is now perpetrating serious human rights violations —denial of basic and citizen right, restriction on movement, persecution on religious grounds and ill and abusive treatment of women and children — targeting the Rohingya people. Zaw Min Htut delivered a speech addressing these issues.

Among others, Tsutayataro — a member of the Japanese parliament, Suzuki and Mimura — of Japanese Lawyer Group for the Burmese People, Hisaotanabe — director, NHK Burmese, officials from Amnesty International Japan and other organizational representative took part in the meet.

Tsutayataro, MP delivered a speech supporting the Rohingya struggle. Suzuki and Mimura also delivered speeches focusing on Rohingya asylum problems in Japan. Besides, officers from Amnesty International of Japan Branch, officers from Tatebayashi City Hall and officers from NGOs delivered speeches about Rohingya problems facing in their motherland and abroad.
