BDR seized Birth Control Pills worth of Taka 400,000 En-route to Burma

 

Cox’s Bazar, June 01: BDR seized birth control pills worth about Taka 400,000 while en-route to Burma, yesterday, according to a local newspaper named “The Daily Bakkhali”of June 01, 2005.

 

On 31 May 2005, at about 10:00pm, a group of smugglers from Teknaf were trying to smuggle these quantity of medicines to Burma.

 

Having information, a team of BDR personal from Teknaf went to the spot and seized the said medicines.

 

However, the smugglers managed to escape from the scene.

 

Birth control medicines including tablets and injections which were not counted but price is estimated about Taka 400,000.

 

The medicines were seized from Nazir Para of Teknaf town, which is placed at the western Bank of Naf River and it separates Burma-Bangladesh border.

 

When asked a medicine shopkeeper from Teknaf said, “Most of the medicines including birth control medicine are smuggled to Burma from Bangladesh and supply to Rangoon through Maungdaw Town.” ##
