Cyclone and Disaster Management Workshop Burmese Refugee Camp

 

Teknaf, May 25: A workshop on awareness of Cyclone and Disaster Management held in Nayapara Rohingya refugee camp, under Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh yesterday, said Mr. Ahmed, a participant of the workshop.

 

A total of 73 people participated in the workshop. Of them 47 are refugees and the rest are police, Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), or Bangladesh Border Security Force and Ansars (Para military forces), while the workshop was organized by the Weather Department of Bangladesh, he further said.

 

Mr. Salauddin Chowdhury the Deputy Commissioner of Weather Department presided over the workshop, while Mr. Mohammed Sidique from Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC), Mr. Assaduz Zaman, the Camp- in- Charge & Magistrate of Nayapara camp, Dr. Abdul Mobin, Medical Officer of the camp, Field Assistants of the UNHCR, Ms. Sara Islam and Mr. Khan Nabinur Rahman (Wahid) were among those who took part in the workshop, said another participant of the workshop.

 

Mr. Salauddin Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner of Weather Department delivered the welcome address at the opening session of the workshop. He also instructed the refugees about cyclone and disaster management.

 

The main objective of the initiative is to empower the refugees with information, skill and knowledge related to the issue so that they can initiate actions in combating “Cyclone or Tornado.”

 

They showed films about cyclones and Tsunami that hit America, Indonesia, Thailand, Sirilanka, Maldives and India. They also took photographs and video recording of the workshop and participants.

 

However, the workshop started 9:00 am and ended at approximately 5:10 pm.
