A Revolutionary Leader Passed Away

Chittagong, May, 05: A Rohingya revolutionary leader Moulavi Deen Mohammed has died of heart failure in Riyadh at the age of 48, the capital of Saudi Arabia on May 3, 2005 at about 4:15 am.

He left Bangladesh for Saudi Arabia for the cause of party matters on April 29, 2005, said Ruhul Amin, a spokesperson from the organization.

President of Rohingya Solidarity Organization, or RSO, Moulavi Deen Mohammed, son of Abul Bashar was born in 1957 in the village of Dargapara of Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, Burma and left 5 sons and a daughter together with his wife and old mother to mourn his death.

Since 1991-92, he has been participating in Rohingya revolutionary movement actively and became a member of the Central Executive committee of RSO in 1994.

Basically, he studied Arabic Literature and Islamic Shari’ah in the religious school (Madarasa) of Minglagyi (Farang Pru) of Maungdaw Township. Later, he obtained bachelor degree from the Patia Islamic University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Then he joined as a teacher at his previous institute of Minglagyi. However, he had been sent to Saudi Arabia for the collection of money for Madarasa funds as he had excellent proficiency in Arabic language and literature, said a village elder from the locality.

On seeing that he was expert on collection of money, Dr. Mohammad Yunus, the then president of RSO organized and recruited him in the movement.

Afterward, in 1998, when Arakan Rohingya Islamic Front (ARIF) led by Nurul Islam, RSO-1 led by Dr. Mohammad Yunus, RSO-2 led by Prof. Zakaria had all together merged into Arakan Rohingya National Organization (ARNO), as a sole representative organization on behalf of Rohingya people, where he became a member of Central Executive Committee (CEC) in the election. He was serving as vice-president of RSO before merging into ARNO.

However, he left from ARNO and revived RSO again although the RSO, ARIF were dissolved before merging into one party as he could not adjust the policies of the organization. Soon after, he had become president of RSO continued till his death.

After one a half years of discussing and organizing among the ARIF, RSO-1 and RSO-2, they had merged into one party named ARNO. In the meantime, though political wings had merged into one political wing, but the military wings were in the merging process. Taking this advantage, Moulavi Deen Mohammad left quietly from ARNO and later declared he had formed RSO again. ##
