A Bangladeshi fisherman died in Burma jail
Teknaf, May 01: A Bangladeshi
fisherman died in Maungdaw Town jail of Arakan State,
Burma on 23rd
April 2005.
The
dead body was identified as Noor Alam
son of Sultan Ahamead hailed from Gular
Para of Saint Martin Island of Teknaf police station
under Cox’s Bazaar
District, Bangladesh, said Mir Ahamed,
a close relative of Noor Alam
from Saint
Martin.
One
month ago, Noor Alam
accompanied by other fishermen of Bangladesh was picked up by Nasaka (Burmese Security Force) while they were catching
fish in the Naf River mouth near Saint
Martin Island. Then they were kept in
the jail of Maungdaw town. But, he was dead only 4
days before, while all the fishermen once accompanied by him were
released on 27th April 2005, by exchange of prisoners between two governments, he
further said.
He
took his last breathing on 23 April 2005, in the jail of Maungdaw
for the cause of different kinds of diseases. After his death, the Nasaka immediately informed to his family through Bangladesh authorities to take the dead
body to Bangladesh. But, his family
could not arrange a boat and afford the expenditure. As a result, they could
not able to return the dead body to Bangladesh as his family’s poverty said Helal from Saint
Martin.
Alternatively,
the family of Noor Alam
permitted to the Nasaka to burry the dead body in Burma. After getting
permission from concerned family, the Nasaka allowed to close by villagers to bury the dead body in Maungdaw, said Kabir who was
recently released from Burma jail. ##
