MP’s Family members face interrogation in Rangoon

 

 Rangoon, March 25: Family members of U Kyaw Min, the elected MP from National Democratic Party for Human Rights (NDPHR) are facing interrogations at the “Tamwe Police Station” of Rangoon capital.

 

Wife of U Kyaw Min and his two daughters were summoned to the interrogation cell of Tamwe Police Station on March 20, 2005, while the said MP was picked up from his Rangoon resident on March 17, 2005, according to a man who has relation with U Kyaw Min’s family and asked not to be named out of fear of retribution of SPDC.

 

Family members were interrogated by police in different ways, putting them in separate rooms of the police station from 9:00 am to 1:00. The Intelligence Police mainly asked about U Kyaw Min’s family back ground and the political activities of U Kyaw Min, he further added.

 

They were also threatened not to expose the queries to anyone and will issue a warrant letter against the son of MP, if he fail to appear to the police station.

 

On 17th March 2005, six police intelligence went to U Kyaw Min’s house, 3 of them were searching inside while three others were watching outside the house. At last, the police got two of true copy of letters sending to USA and UK embassies of Rangoon which was concerning the script of recent writing book, said the above mentioned man.

 

When asked the police to see their father said, “U Kyaw Min is sent to the concerned higher authorities as we don’t know his whereabouts.” Later on, police took one longyi and one shirt for Kyaw Min from his house, said a friend of U Kyaw Min.

 

Members from National League for Democracy, or NLD and the Committee for Representing People’s Parliament, or CRPP went to U Kyaw Min’s house everyday and consoled the family members, the friend more added.

 

According to relatives of U Kyaw Min, he will be indicted by other Act, likely with immigration Act, when it is not possible to charge him with anti-state activities.

 

A statement was released by CRPP on last Union Day, in which U Kyaw Min took in active part. Besides, he met with ILO delegation, which visited Burma on 21st to 23rd of February 2005. He mentioned them about Rohingyas’ situation in Arakan State, Rohingya students who are not allowed for further study in universities and about some Rohingya companies in Rangoon who were interrogated and seized their NRC cards and released on bail after taking bribes. These may be irritated to the military regime, said another relative who asked not to be named.

 

U Tin Oo, the Chairman of the National League for Democracy, or NLD encouraged him to become a member of the CRPP, as he was elected MP from the National Democratic Party for Human Rights, or NDPH, the relative further added.

 

NDPHR, after getting membership in CRPP, the Chairman of the National Unity Party, or NUP including two others went to U Kyaw Min’s house to invite him to amalgamate with NUP. But, he didn’t accept it.  It also made angry to the SPDC authorities, he more added.

 

For the period of the Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt, he was also disturbed by the Military Intelligence Service (MIS), said another colleague of U Kyaw Min.

 

According to a said colleague of U Kyaw Min, it is not clear yet why he was arrested and where he is kept. Some people believe that the arrest is related to the National Convention, which was held on February 17, 2005. The CRPP members are being closely watched by the plain clothed Security Personnel. ##
