Two Men Killed and Two Others Injured by NaKaPa

 


Maungdaw, March 10:
On 27th January 2005, two men were killed and two others were injured on a fire by Nakapa at Inn Din village of Maungdaw in Arakan State, said a villager who is relation of the dead bodies, asking not to be mentioned.

 

NaKaKa is newly formed Border Security Force in place of previous NaSaKa.

 

The smugglers were on fired  by an army of the battalion No,233, now as a NaKaPa, while the smugglers were trying to flee from a boat, in which they were loading rice, goats and fowls in a creek of Inn Din village and it to be smuggled to Bangladesh, the villager further added.

 

The dead persons were identified as Sultan Ahamed, 29, son of Mr. Ali Ahamed and Mohamed Meah, 27, son of Mr. Ali Abbass while Abu Taher and his son was bullet injured. All the dead and injured persons hailed from Inn Din village except Sultan Ahamed. He hailed from Bassara village of Maungdaw South, a trader said from this village.

 

The NaKaPa seized the boat including 50 bags of rice, some fowls and 15 goats, an estimated amount of US$ 2,000, the trader added. (1 US$=Kyat- 950).

 

On that day, the Commander of the Inn Din NaKaPa Camp called the villagers including Village Peace and Development Council (VPDC) Chairman and Secretary for a meeting and told them (villagers) that the men who were killed and injured on the bullet fire were smugglers and the said boat en route to Bangladesh. The villagers were also asked to burry the dead bodies immediately as early as possible and not to expose the information to any quarter. If the news is disclosed the villagers including VPDC Chairman and Secretary will be punished according to the law, said another relative of the wounded persons.

 

The commander Continued, “We are not ex-Nasaka, we are the army under the guise of NaKaPa. You must do what we say, if not, it is yours responsible.” deceased

 

 On that night, the two deceased bodies were buried at the village graveyard according to the order of NaKaPa.

 

The wounded father and his son were carried to the NaKaPa camp where they had been taking medical treatment till release. Later on, however, they were released at the end of February last week of 2005, but it is not known how much Kyats has been paid for the release. ##
