Construction Companies in Rangoon in a Panic-Stricken Position

 

Rangoon, March 02: Construction companies in Rangoon, Burma, mostly companies owned by the ethnic nationalities are in a panic-stricken position, said one of the companies of Rangoon on condition of anonymity.

 

After the sack of ex-Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt, the SPDC authorities arrested, interrogated and gave punishment some of the Military Intelligent (MI), Nasaka (Border Security Force) who were involved in corruption and also the men who were the collaborators or co-workers of MI and Nasaka and who maintained relation with them, he further added.

 

“We, the people across the country hoped that the weather of the political situation of the country will be improved in near future after the sack of General Khin Nyunt, but, in reality, the situation is going bad to worse day by day.  After the combing operation against the MI and Nasaka across the country, the SPDC again targets the minority businessmen who have business establishment in Rangoon city and adjacent municipality areas”, said a businessman from Rangoon referring not to mention his name.

 

Recently, the concerned SPDC authorities summoned some of the construction companies to their office and enquired them about their company, property, NRC cards and sources of other income. Some owners and directors of companies are still detained and some were released after primary inquiry, said another businessman from Rangoon.

 

The following are some of the popular construction companies were investigated by the SPDC are: Dr. Khin Shwe, Zaykabar Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd, U Maung Maung, Asia Express (YGN) Co. Ltd, U Sein Thit, Tosta Group Ltd, U Maung Weik, Maung Weik & Family Co. Ltd, U Kyaw Naing Oo, Naing Group Construction Co. Ltd, U Than Lwin, Peninsula Ent Co. Ltd, U Tin Myint Ni, Nilar Construction Co. Ltd, U Kyaw Win, Shwe Than Lwin Construction Co. Ltd, the owner of Cherry Oo Co. Ltd and the owner of Golden Flower Co. Ltd, the businessman further added.

 

On the other hand, the SPDC authorities convened a sham 2nd National Convention on 17th February 2005 and it was attended over 1000 men mostly the SPDC’s handpicked representatives. It is nothing but to legalize the wrong doings of SPDC authorities and the military rulers under the frame work of national constitution.

 

“The process of constitutional drafting has become an outright imposition of military privileges and special powers in the future constitution,” said Dr. Sein Win, the prime minister of NCGUB.

 

Many businessmen in Rangoon fear that their business establishments and industries would be nationalized in near future, the said company more added.

 

It may be mentioned here that the military regime of General Ne Win nationalized many business establishments and industries of ethnic minorities of Burma in 1964.

 

In the meantime, The SPDC is victimizing the ethnic minority groups allegedly by rape, extrajudicial killings, confiscation of land and property, forced labor. ##
