Burma
refutes press reports on fish export to Bangladesh with alleged traces of
chemical substances
Chittagong, February 15: Burma exports fishes to Bangladesh to boost up trade ties through mutually beneficial
arrangements like border-trade and other trading facilities, a press release of
the Embassy of the Union of Burma said yesterday.
Burma exports fishes including Rohu, Carp, Katla, Mrigal, Pangush and Tilapia and
certain varieties of prawns and shrimps to Bangladesh.
Burma gave favorable treatment to Bangladesh through the trade
arrangements to help the latter to ensure food security, the release added.
The release was issued to correct information in reports published in local
dailies concerning Burma’s aqua products and
exports.
The press reports alleged that traces of chemical substances were found in Burma fish imported by Bangladesh. The release termed it
'totally untrue'.
The fish and aqua-products being exported to Bangladesh and also worldwide are
not only from freshwater and coastal fisheries but also from the rapidly
developing marine farms that are scientifically managed and strictly controlled
for quality assurance and clean quality products.
Bangladesh consumers depend on Burma fishes imported by Bangladesh government, said Hakim Ali, a fish trader from Chittagong.
