"Our bull had butted till falling down
on the ground after it's second horn again broken
down, couldn't run and the referees pulled out the winner bull and decided who
is the winner," said Mi Hla who watched and lost
betting in the bull buttering.
The buttering was held in War-kha-yuu village ground,
The defeated bull, named "Ma Shar", was experienced in buttering and a famous
butting bull in the area.
Ma Shar is very
smart in butting and it has smaller body, according to audiences. But the
butting ground is its place.
The bull from Kalawthut
has stronger built and younger. But he had to go and butt under his enemy's
land.
Majority of audience thought that Kalawthut bull might win and they put betting on Kalawthut bull side. If their side lost, they have to paid 120 Kyat when the other side need to pay only 100 Kyat.
"In the start, our Kalawthut
bull butted downs Ma Shar. After the Ma Shar fell down, he did not continue butting. Ma Shar stood up and started betting again. After about 10
minutes, our Kalawthut first bull horn was broken
down. Experienced Ma Shar more strongly fight to our
bull and the second horn was broken down," told Mi Hla
who lost more than ten thousands Kyat.
After a while, the Kalawthut
bull fell down and the butting ended with winner and loser at about 20 minutes.
"We do not feel bad although we lost
because our bull tried hard even though it was his first time in butting. He is
very grate," Mi Hla whose family lost more than
100,000 Kyat in the betting said.
Bull butting is a traditional and big
gambling practice among Mon community. At least more than two or three millions
Kyat a side bets by bull owners in a time of butting.
For holding a bull butting, they have to pay illegal tax to local
authorities as commission. The bull owners are the main persons who are betting
in the game and some other people also bet in the game with the agreement of
commission (butting organizers), like Ma Hla family.
There were sometimes huge amount of money betted. They have to pay at least 5%
to the commission as tax.
