The 50 houses are ordered to forcibly relocate after the local SPDC Township authorities decide to the Thai businessmen’s investment to build Casino gambling business and a road, accordingly to the local residence from Three Pagoda Pass border town opposite of Thailand’s Kanchanaburi Province.

Houses which under the planned forced relocation are from Town quarter No. 3 and No. 4. In quarter No. 3, the senior authorities of Township PDC have planned to construct a road that rounds the town. In quarter No. 4, near the fire brigade station, the authorities also have planned to build guest-houses for gambling business, said a house owner as his house is already ordered to relocate, Mr. Kyaw.

“According to the order on May 8, from Chairman of Township PDC in Three Pagoda Pass, the No. 3 quarter PDC authority, Mr. U Aung Kyaw Min met house owners and talked to the house owners to relocate all houses with a set deadline on 23rd May. If don’t, they (authorities) will come and destroy the houses to themselves,” he added.

“Township PDC authorities and Quarter PDC authorities bought a town resident Ms. Saw Khin’s land and planned to resettle the relocated families. But, the families will have to pay for 750 Baht to get a piece of land in May. Then they also to continue paying another 750 Baht next month. A plot of the land is available to build a house with 20 in width and 40 feet in length,” said Mr. Kyaw.

“It is so hard for us. We are living here not having money more than 100 Baht on hand today.   How we can afford to pay 750 Baht for a plot of land?  So that to get new land, we don’t know how to find money,” said a resident Ms. Aye Myint, whose land is under order to be confiscated.

“How can they live for those who don’t have relatives in Three Pagoda Pass town after their houses are destroyed?  The rainy season will start soon. All families have not destroyed their houses yet because they are worrying about the living,” she added.

“I have to destroy my house even I do not want to. I will do it in next five or six days. Then I will move to my elder brother house. To get a new place, I don’t know how to find money and pay,” she claimed sadly.

There are many people who will have to face the similar problems like Ms. Aye Myint. They do not have enough food and money if they are relocated, as they have to rely on their daily job and income. Some people have demanded to the authorities to delay the relocation up to a year because they have no available space of lands and livelihood.   But the authorities refused and they can not stay there longer, said the people from the Three Pagoda Pass.

Although the SPDC authorities claimed these confiscated lands are belonged to the government, but the local residents said that the previous authorities have sold some lands and gave land guarantee to some (current) house and land owners in the past.
